Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States have reached an all-time high, surpassing $100 billion in net assets on November 21, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. The combined assets of Bitcoin ETFs now total approximately $104 billion, putting them within striking distance of gold ETFs, which manage $120 billion in assets.
The surge in Bitcoin ETF assets follows the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January. Investor interest has grown significantly, particularly after crypto-friendly President-elect Donald Trump’s victory on November 5. Trump’s win boosted market confidence, driving over $5 billion in ETF inflows in November alone.
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has emerged as the market leader, attracting $30 billion in inflows this year. Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) comes next, with over $11 billion in inflows. These funds have positioned Bitcoin ETFs as a dominant force in the financial sector.
Bitcoin’s price has mirrored the growth in ETF assets, rising nearly 120% in 2024. As of November 21, Bitcoin trades above $97,000, marking a significant leap from its January levels. Analysts predict Bitcoin could soon trade between $100,000 and $150,000.
Bitcoin ETFs are rapidly approaching a historic milestone, with assets close to overtaking gold ETFs. Experts believe this shift reflects growing investor confidence in Bitcoin as a robust alternative to traditional assets. Amid rising geopolitical tensions, both Bitcoin and gold have become preferred hedges against economic uncertainty.
The explosive growth of Bitcoin ETFs highlights the increasing adoption of cryptocurrency in mainstream finance. As Bitcoin continues its upward trajectory, surpassing gold ETFs in assets could mark a new era for digital assets in the investment world.
