Stay updated with the latest in crypto! From Trump’s Bitcoin Reserve order to Ethereum’s leadership changes and Dubai’s crypto trading launch, here’s a roundup of this week’s major developments.
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to create a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a Digital Asset Stockpile, using cryptocurrencies seized in government cases. White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks called the Bitcoin reserve a “digital Fort Knox”, ensuring Bitcoin is stored long-term rather than sold.
The Bitcoin Reserve will be funded by the Treasury Department's holdings, with agencies evaluating their authority to contribute more Bitcoin. The Digital Asset Stockpile will include cryptocurrencies like XRP, Solana (SOL), Cardano (ADA), Ethereum (ETH), and Bitcoin (BTC) but only from forfeited assets. The Treasury Secretary may manage these assets, including potential sales.
While Trump listed XRP, SOL, and ADA as part of the reserve, data shows the U.S. government does not hold these assets. Instead, it holds 198,109 BTC worth $17.87 billion and Ethereum worth $119 million. The order also mandates a full audit of the government's crypto holdings for transparency.
A district in India has digitized over 700,000 land records and stored them on the Avalanche blockchain to ensure transparency and prevent tampering. The Dantewada District Administration in Chhattisgarh launched this initiative with the support of blockchain startup LegitDoc by Zupple Labs.
IAS officer Mayank Chaturvedi, the district collector, emphasized that the move eliminates delays in accessing land records and ensures tamper-proof storage. The government has also set up kiosks across sub-districts, allowing citizens and officials to access land records securely.
This blockchain-based system enables officials to search, verify, and download land records, including ownership details, cadastral maps, and legal documents. The platform also supports smart contract verification for added security.
The project was led by IAS officer Jayant Nahata, who stated that it has reduced legal costs, secured document storage, and improved accessibility for citizens. Tribal communities and farmers now have better protection of their land ownership, reducing disputes and manual paperwork.
U.S. President Donald Trump is set to host the first White House Crypto Summit on March 7, bringing together key figures from the crypto industry, government officials, and investors. The event, led by David Sacks, Trump’s AI and Crypto Czar, and Bo Hines, will focus on crypto regulations, stablecoin oversight, and the possibility of a U.S. Bitcoin reserve.
The summit is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of crypto policies in the United States. Discussions may include how stablecoin issuers should comply with U.S. laws, as some experts argue that companies issuing dollar-backed stablecoins must register in the U.S. to ensure financial stability and consumer protection.
Another key topic is the idea of a Bitcoin reserve for the U.S., which has been gaining traction, with at least 24 states introducing related legislation. Trump’s administration may use this opportunity to outline a strategy for integrating Bitcoin into the country’s financial system. The summit is expected to provide more clarity on the government’s stance on cryptocurrencies and their role in the future of the U.S. economy.
The Ethereum Foundation has appointed Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak as its new co-directors. Wang has been a core researcher at the foundation for seven years, while Stańczak is the CEO of Nethermind, a major Ethereum client.
This leadership change comes as Ethereum faces challenges, including price struggles, competition from new blockchain networks, and concerns about layer-2 solutions impacting the main network.
To strengthen its position, the foundation recently deposited 45,000 ETH into decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms to generate additional revenue.
Additionally, the foundation is focusing on expanding Ethereum’s presence through marketing efforts, including the Etherealize initiative and hiring a social media manager.
Dubai’s Emirates NBD Bank has introduced crypto trading services through its Liv X app, allowing customers to buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrencies. This service, launched on March 5, is powered by Aquanow and secured by Zodia Custody.
Users in the UAE can trade Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, and Cardano (ADA). Emirates NBD’s Retail Banking Head, Marwan Hadi, highlighted that this move aligns with their goal of leading digital finance innovation.
Emirates NBD has been exploring blockchain solutions for years, including a fraud prevention system tested with the UAE’s Central Bank in 2017. With crypto adoption surging in the UAE, the bank aims to provide a secure and compliant trading experience.
