MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has announced plans to raise $1.75 billion through 0% senior convertible notes. The company intends to use these funds to purchase more Bitcoin and support its corporate operations.
These notes allow MicroStrategy to borrow money without paying regular interest to bondholders. Instead, the notes are sold at a discount and will mature to their full face value in 2029, unless converted into equity before then. In the event of bankruptcy or liquidation, these notes have priority over common stock.
If the entire $1.75 billion is invested in Bitcoin, MicroStrategy could acquire an additional 19,065 BTC at current prices. The company already owns 331,200 Bitcoin, valued at over $30.3 billion, after purchasing $4.6 billion worth of Bitcoin on November 18. This year alone, MicroStrategy has added 142,050 Bitcoin to its holdings, spending around $12.8 billion.
MicroStrategy's average purchase price for its Bitcoin is $39,292, and its investment has grown by 133% so far. The firm's Bitcoin buying spree has made it a key player in the crypto market.
Following the announcement, MicroStrategy’s stock (MSTR) surged nearly 13% to close at $374.8, its highest value yet. However, after-hours trading saw a slight dip of 0.7%.
Last month, MicroStrategy unveiled an ambitious plan to raise $42 billion over three years under its “21/21” strategy, splitting the amount equally between equity and fixed-income securities. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to growing its Bitcoin portfolio as part of its long-term vision.
Bitcoin is trading at $91,653, less than 2% below its all-time high of $93,477, which it reached on November 13. The continued interest from institutional players like MicroStrategy highlights Bitcoin’s growing acceptance as a valuable asset.
With its bold moves and unwavering focus on Bitcoin, MicroStrategy is solidifying its position as a leader in corporate cryptocurrency adoption. This latest fundraising effort could significantly increase its influence in the Bitcoin market.
