BlackRock’s Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) recently saw its highest-ever trading volume, with over $4.1 billion worth of trades daily. This surge happened on November 6, the day after Donald Trump’s re-election as president of the United States. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas reported on social media that BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) saw a remarkable trading day, with volumes exceeding those of major stocks like Berkshire Hathaway, Netflix, and Visa. This volume also marks a 10% rise, making it the second-highest day of gains for the fund since its launch.
This trading volume spike occurred alongside an impressive rise in Bitcoin’s price, reaching a new all-time high of $76,500 before slightly pulling back to $75,267. Balchunas pointed out that other Bitcoin ETFs also saw significant activity, with most experiencing double their usual daily volumes. According to ETF Store president Nate Geraci, Bitcoin has become a leader in the ETF market this year, with six out of the top 10 ETF launches in 2024 focused on Bitcoin.
Analysts believe that Trump’s re-election and pro-crypto stance could positively impact the broader cryptocurrency market. Trump's administration has indicated a supportive approach to cryptocurrencies, and many see this as an optimistic sign for the future of digital assets. There’s growing excitement among investors and asset managers, with more regulatory filings for ETFs involving other cryptocurrencies like Solana, XRP, and Litecoin. Additionally, some firms are awaiting approval to launch crypto index ETFs, which would offer investors access to various cryptocurrencies in one investment.
In a previous analysis, Balchunas mentioned that the anticipation of Trump’s win may have driven some of these ETF filings. The growing interest in crypto ETFs reflects a broader trend of mainstream financial institutions increasingly embracing digital assets, as they recognize demand from a wider range of investors.
With Trump’s upcoming inauguration, some market analysts are optimistic about further Bitcoin price gains in Copper. Co’s head of research, Fadi Aboualfa, even suggested that Bitcoin could reach $100,000 by January 20, the day of Trump’s swearing-in. If the current momentum continues, it could be a strong start to 2024 for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, as traditional and crypto investors alike respond to the evolving regulatory landscape and institutional interest.
