EigenLayer, Ethereum’s (ETH) restaking protocol officially launched the blockchain's mainnet. This launch coincides with the unveiling of EigenDA, a data-availability (DA) service developed by the EigenLayer team.
Even prior to EigenLayer's launch, it had already emerged as one of the most sought-after platforms for crypto inflows. This popularity can be attributed in part to its highly acclaimed innovation of pooled security, a technology that has the potential to significantly reshape the industry landscape by extending Ethereum's security framework to other crypto protocols.
In recent months, EigenLayer's total value locked (TVL) has surged beyond $13 billion, positioning it as the second-largest DeFi protocol according to DeFiLlama. The protocol's rapid growth is credited to its reward system for depositors, which some speculate will influence allocation in a future token. Additionally, EigenLayer has gained traction due to the increasing popularity of liquid restaking tokens, which re-stake deposits and issue liquid tokens in return, akin to the operation of Lido's stETH.
